The new sanctions were introduced in agreement with the Ministry of Commerce, which introduced new controls on Russian exports, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which targets Russia’s defense and high-tech industries, the statement said.
“As Ukraine defends its freedom, we are taking steps today to further weaken Russia’s ability to rebuild its military, prosecute those responsible for the violence, and further isolate Putin economically,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement.
