The Superfund announced an international tender for the right to administer, manage, operate, develop, expand, maintain and operate Kalamata International Airportfor 40 years.

The novelty of this competition is that the fund retains the right to participate in the authorized capital of the concessionaire with a minority stake, which will not exceed 15%. Recall that, in accordance with the law establishing the superfund, it included rights related to the administration, management, operation, development, expansion and maintenance of 23 public airports, which remain under the jurisdiction of the Greek state. The start of the competition takes place after the drafting of the text of the request for an expression of interest (Expression of Interest) and the publication in the Journal of the European Communities of the corresponding announcement made yesterday Wednesday.

Passenger numbers are expected to reach 500,000 a year well before the end of the decade.

The competition for Kalamata will be held in two stages. In the first case, interested investors meeting specific feasibility criteria are invited to submit their Expression of Interest documents by November 4, 2022. Then, after evaluating the submitted files, the superfund will select candidates that meet the relevant criteria. Those selected will be eligible to participate in the second and final stage of the tender, during which they will submit their binding financial and technical proposals. At this stage, the exact duration of the concession and the provisions of the concession agreement will be determined after consultations.

According to the management of the superfund, the Kalamata Airport concession is supposed to “renovate, modernize and expand the infrastructure of the airport and, in particular, the passenger corps, which are an absolutely necessary condition due to the rapid development of this airport.” With this investment, Kalamata Airport will be able to handle an ever-increasing number of passengers, estimated to reach 500,000 a year much sooner than by the end of the decade. Passenger traffic is already estimated to surpass the 2019 record this year. This is an increase in the number of passengers, combined with significant private investment in the tourism sector and in particular TEMES in Costa Navarino, as well as improvements in road infrastructure in Costa Navarino. they are expected to have a multiplier positive effect in Messinia Prefecture as well as the airport’s wider area of ​​influence.
