Russian gas supplies to Hungary are uninterrupted and will supply both domestic and industrial consumers in the cold season, Tamas Menzer, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Budapest, said on Monday, as quoted by MTI and Agerpres.
According to the recent agreement, Gazprom will supply up to a maximum daily volume of 5.8 million cubic meters of gas over and above the September and October contracts, Menzer said on public television M1.
The Secretary of State also said that almost half of the gas consumed in Europe each year, around 400 billion cubic metres, comes from Russia and insisted that “those who say that Russian gas can be replaced in the short term are simply not telling the truth”. “.
Menzer also argued that Europe does not have enough terminals to receive enough liquefied natural gas (LNG), nor does it have enough pipelines.
According to Mentzer, “Gazprom” made a record profit of 41.5 billion dollars, which is twice as much as last year, despite the sanctions of the European Union.
“The Russians are making money much higher than expected, while Europe is in an energy crisis, Hungary is a local exception,” the state secretary also said.
Russia has stopped the supply of natural gas through the Nord Stream.
Last Tuesday, Russia completely cut off the supply of Russian natural gas to Germany and other European countries through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, and Gazprom announced on Friday that supplies could remain suspended indefinitely.
The price of natural gas on European markets jumped by 30% on Monday after Gazprom’s statement.
The benchmark gas price rose to 272 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh) at the market open after Russia said it would be shut down due to a leak at its Nord Stream 1 facilities.
Natural gas contracts in the Netherlands for October fell to 256 euros, a daily increase of 23%, almost 400% more than a year ago.
This year’s price hikes have already hit consumers and forced some industries to shut down production.
