At a 12-year low, below 12% and with a significant de-escalation of almost one, from the previous month, the percentage closed at the end of July unemployment in our country, which according to its seasonally adjusted data European Statistical Office amounted to 11.4%. The decline is even greater, by 2.9 percentage points, year on year, as in July 2021 the corresponding percentage was 14.3% according to data released yesterday by Eurostat. In the eurozone, the unemployment rate was 6.6% in July, compared to 6.7% in June and 7.7% in July 2021, and for the EU as a whole, the corresponding rate was 6.0% in July, compared to 6.1 % a month earlier and 6.9% in July 2021.

Of course, the problem of youth unemployment continues to haunt our country, which ranks first with 28.6% in July 2022, compared to 27.4% in June and 34% in July 2021. It is worrying that youth unemployment increased this year in July compared to this June, which proves that more drastic solutions are needed as Greece now seems to be getting to the heart of the problem.Unemployment: dropped to 12-year low, remains high among youth-1

The youth unemployment rate rose to 28.6% from 27.4% in June and 34% in July 2021.

As noted in studies signed by a group of economists from the Athens University of Economics, KEPE and diaNEOSIS, unemployment is not a transient phenomenon of a short-term nature, as it increases the possibility of future unemployment, and also acts as a means of perpetuating poverty.

In the EU, the youth unemployment rate was 14% and 14.2% in the euro area. Thus, the officially registered unemployed youth under the age of 25 amounted to 2.63 million people. Of these, 2.17 million in the eurozone and 63 thousand in Greece.

After all, for another month, women are the biggest victims compared to men, with the July unemployment rate at 13.8% compared to 9.5% for men. At EU level, the female unemployment rate stood at 6.4% in July, unchanged from June 2022.

The male unemployment rate was 5.7% in July 2022, also unchanged from the previous month. In the Eurozone, the female unemployment rate fell from 7.1% in June 2022 to 7.0% in July 2022, while the male unemployment rate remained stable at 6.3%.

Minister of Labor Kostis Hatzidakis also mentioned a significant decrease in the unemployment rate in our country in his personal social media account. In particular, it states the following: “Unemployment in July was 11.4% (Eurostat). 12 years minimum. SYRIZA left us 17.3%. Almost 6 units down! The number of unemployed decreased by 300,000 people. It didn’t happen, it worked.”
