
The National Union of Road Transporters of Romania (UNTRR) asks the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) to take urgent measures for the immediate application of European provisions that allow the recognition of driver’s documents issued by Ukraine, which will facilitate the rapid employment of Ukrainian drivers at road transport companies in Romania , says the organization’s press release.
According to the quoted source, the road transport industry in Romania has been facing a crisis of professional drivers for many years, which has now become even more acute due to the important challenges related to the start of the application of the Mobility Package 1 and the instability caused by the war in Ukraine.
According to this year’s survey by the International Road Transport Union – IRU, Romania is one of the European countries most affected by the crisis of professional drivers, the shortage, according to the IRU, reaches 71,000 unfilled professional driver positions in Romanian road transport companies.
