Tourism: Average visitor leaves 12.6% more than in 2019

At 2.3% higher than in 2019, travel receipts were generated in June 2022, marking a jump in Greek tourism higher and higher than the levels of the last “normal” year before the outbreak of the pandemic.

According to the Bank of Greece, tourist receipts for the period from January to June 2022 are 5.3% lower than in 2019.

Compared to June 2019, in June 2022, average travel expenses increased by 15.9%, while inbound traffic decreased by 11.0%.

Compared to the period January-June 2019, in the period January-June 2022, inbound passenger traffic decreased by 15.1%, while average travel expenses increased by 12.6%.

In terms of the most important countries of origin for travelers in June, receipts from Germany increased by 169% to 577.8 million euros, while receipts from France increased by 116.2% to 157.4 million euros. Of the non-EU-27 countries, receipts from the United Kingdom rose by 633.2% to €427.4 million, while receipts from the US increased by 219.3% to €157.1 million. Fees from Russia also rose by 38.1% to 6.0 million euros.
