The first signs of August show that this growth in inbound tourism is gaining momentum, with arrivals to the islands of the southeastern Aegean in the first 7 days of August increasing by 17% compared to the corresponding period in 2019. After these figures, the market now dominates with relative confidence that, barring shocking unforeseen circumstances, inbound tourism revenue could reach €20bn this year, up from €18.2bn in 2019. However, based on data from the Bank of Greece for the entire first half of 2022, non-resident traveler arrivals and corresponding receipts are 84.9% and 94.7% of their respective levels in 2019. This means that as of June, the country has yet to catch up with the backlog from 2019 caused by the first bad months of this year. However, something is estimated to have been done in seven months, including July.
Along with arrivals and admissions, prices per night in Greece are rising this year as well. Characteristically, according to the consulting company Mabrian Travel Intelligence Platform in Greece, the largest growth was recorded among the main Mediterranean destinations. The increase in hotel prices in August this year, according to Mabrian, reaches 134% for 5-star hotels compared to the corresponding period in 2019. For four-star hotels, the growth is about 82%, and for three-star complexes, close to 30%.
