Slightly less than the base salary (net income) a family of four will have to pay if they want to travel to the country’s popular tourist destinations. Cycladeslike for example n Naxos or Paros, islands usually chosen by families. And this amount of 592 euros, together with an average car, will pay for a trip to the island and back from there, provided that one of the two children is under 10 years old. Otherwise, the cost will exceed the amount of the basic salary. Cause; ferry tickets for many islandsmainly in the Cyclades, were revalued three times in 2022, resulting in more than 30% more expensive than last year.

For example, a ticket to Naxos now costs 51.50 euros (economy class is a deck with a regular ship, not a high-speed one), compared to 39.50 euros last year. The first price increase occurred in the spring, when the ticket price reached 43.50 euros, followed by another increase in June, reaching 49.50 euros, and another in July, bringing the ticket price to 51.50 euros.

In general, according to the data announced yesterday Hellenic Statistical Office (ELSTAT)ferry ticket prices increased by 25.4% compared to last year.

Driving to a tourist destination in Ionia or the Greek mainland is far from a cheap option. The cost of petrol and toll from Athens to Petalidi in a family car is around 65 euros. Their prices have gone up too. tourist accommodation, which makes many necessarily choose a short-day vacation in case they do not have a house in the country. Even in the first two weeks of July, it was difficult or impossible to find a simple double room in the Cyclades at a price below 70-80 euros, and in August the prices are not lower than 90 euros. In Messinia, the choice of many Greeks and foreigners, couples and families, prices for simple quadruple rooms in most areas start at 100 euros.

Prices in the catering sector rose, according to ELSTAT, by 4.6%, but the phenomenon of speculation and non-issuance of receipts did not disappear.

Slight decline in inflation

The CPI showed a slight decline in July, down 11.6% from 12.1% in June, mainly due to a slight decrease in fuel prices and a smaller decrease in electricity prices. Of course, the fact that an upward trend in prices began to appear since last July and, consequently, the distance between the starting point and the current situation is shrinking. On a very negative note, food inflation has reached even higher levels, which means that a lot of pressure on low- and middle-income households continues, and this trend is, in fact, estimated to continue, given that the distribution of new price lists -sheets didn’t stop at markups from suppliers to retailers.Holidays: Not swimming due to precision-1
