Today, the Jeep Avenger gets a unique new engine…
First electric, then gasoline…
Launched in 2023, The Jeep Avenger won all the awards last year. For what ? Already because it was an innovative model for Jeep. Positioned in the B segment, notably against the Hyundai Kona, Peugeot e-2008 and Opel Mokka-e, it is the smallest jeep in history ! It is also the first 100% electric model from the American manufacturer, which is historically known for its rugged and economical SUVs and 4X4s. Other awards: it was recognized as the Car of the Year 2023, this is the first time a Jeep has won this precious title! Its compact format, its iconic design, its universal offers (156 horsepower, city range of up to 600 kilometers) and its entitlement to an environmental bonus of €4,000 (starting at €38,000 without bonus) make it a solid alternative to established competitors. To reach customers still eager to go electric, the brand launched its small crossover in a thermal version, equipped with 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo gasoline unit with a capacity of 100 horsepower paired with a manual transmission. Available to order in France from July 2023, this reduced the starting price of the model to 23,800 euros.
…and now a hybrid 4X4
But in pure Jeep tradition, The Avenger was also expected… with 4X4 all-wheel drive ! Today, the manufacturer presents the first information about this new version called Avenger 4Xe. This is not a conventional 4X4 architecture where a heat engine drives the rear wheels via a drive shaft, because here they are driven by an electric motor located on the rear axle. The 1.2-liter Puretech e-hybrid unit has increased power to 136 horsepower, just like the Avenger eHybrid, thanks to the addition of two electric motors (the second is located in the front), each developing 28 horsepower. This is a “mild” or “mild hybrid” hybrid system. which allows the intervention of the electric motor only at certain stages of movement at low speed, during parking, acceleration or recovery. The car cannot under any circumstances drive several kilometers on electricity, unlike traditional “full hybrid” systems. Jeep, on the other hand, promises that all-wheel drive is always availableregardless of the state of the battery, thanks to the new Power Looping technology.
Jeep Avenger 4Xe will appear on the market at the end of 2024opening of orders is scheduled for 4d quarter.
