At least 30,000 powerful charging stations

To compete with Tesla’s Supercharger network, seven of the world’s major automakers have teamed up to create Ionanew high power charging network. The joint venture has just received regulatory approval and is now officially starting operations in North America.

Ionna aims to be one of the most affordable and reliable high-capacity charging networks in North America for deployment at least 30,000 charging stations. By the end of the decade, Ionna aims to be a leader in providing convenient, affordable and reliable fast charging infrastructure.

Ionna: an alliance of seven producers

Ionna is the result of an alliance of seven of the world’s largest car manufacturers: BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis.
Works on renewable energy sourcesthe Ionna charging network will be available for all equipped electric vehicles NACS or Combo CCS connectors, regardless of their brand. The joint venture is already promising “problem-free premium charging in the car”. To offer its users greater comfort, Ionna plans toilet stations, catering as well as retail stores in strategic locations.
As for charging, the seats will be practical, equipped with canopies and offer easy charging experience, with features and services fully integrated into the automotive applications of the participating automakers. Then it will be easy to reserve a charging station, plan a route to the station, and pay for electricity charging sessions, while being able to monitor your car’s energy management.

The first Ionna charging stations should be operational in 2024 in the United States and then in Canada.
