High cost
Between Anna Hidalgo and the car, it’s an ongoing story, but it’s not a love story. On the contrary, because the mayor of Paris is doing everything possible to discourage drivers to push them to the limit. The goal? Make cars disappear from the capital, with a large number of pedestrians and other activities of all kinds. But that’s not all, because the elected official wants not only to ban cars from driving, but also to refuse them from parking. Thus, he has already eliminated several thousand seats and wants to go even further. From September 1, the price of parking for SUVs in the capital will triple. After voting, a decision was made which only mobilized 5.68% out of 1.3 million Parisian voters. Thus, only 78,000 people voted, which is nevertheless welcomed by first deputy Emmanuel Grégoire, interviewed on the sidelines of the Paris Council. If this vote failed, it cost the city particularly dearly.

Big expenses
According to the deputy, this election campaign would actually have worth at least 400,000 euros to the city, or about 5 euros per voter. And it was not for nothing that this large-scale operation mobilized no less than 11,000 city hall agents, although the voting was supposed to take place in person. Indeed, Yves Charpenel, president of the control commission, points out that proxies were not possible because they were “extremely expensive”. In addition, it caused some problems because “some voters actually went to the wrong place in their district town hall when they should have voted elsewhere and had to go back.” And it is not for nothing that the polling places were not the same as usual. Enough to create real chaos, even if no incident was recorded during this operation. There will be a discussion presented in May next to make a final decision on the implementation of this measure. It will take effect this summer.
