Volkswagen Golf R: it will also face restyling in 2024

A few days ago, the Wolfsburg-based firm lifted the curtain on the restyled Volkswagen Golf VIII, which has just arrived to celebrate the German compact car’s 50th anniversary. The opportunity to reveal details of its mid-career upgrades, including the GTI version, which has gained 20bhp and now reaches 265bhp.

Indeed, the range of the updated Golf should also include a Clubsport version, as well as a more powerful version that will complete the offer: Volkswagen Golf R. This has just been announced by the German manufacturer with a series of photos of a sports model in camouflage with a color coating.
The model was actually already presented to the public during the competition “Ice Races”, dedicated to motorsports on snow and ice, which took place this weekend in Zell am See, Austria. The German racer Hans-Joachim Stuck and the six-time World Rallycross Champion Swede Johan Kristoffersson competed there. demonstration on the track of several Golf models historic ones such as the Golf I GTI from 1975 or the Golf IV R32 from 2002, while Volkswagen displayed rally versions of the Golf I GTI and Golf II.

All we know so far is that it will be equipped with a All-wheel drive 4Motion and a 2.0-liter TSI gasoline engine (EA888) of which power must be improved compared to the current version.
As a reminder, the latter develops 333 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is 250 km/h (270 km/h with the R Performance package). ).

There Volkswagen Golf R will differ from the rest of the range with some aesthetic attributes that we can guess, despite its camouflage signed by the “R” logo: the design front shield sportier, specific spoiler and rear skirt, not forgetting black wheels“R” acronyms and brake calipers painted blue.
