THE city ​​radars actually tested since 2021 and capable of automatic control speeding and running a red light… So far, their work has not resulted in tickets being issued, but that will change quickly.

Indeed, this is the real horror of the city centers, which are back in business on January 16, 2024. The first verbalizations began from this morning in several towns in the Territories of Belfort (90) and Bouches-du-Rhône (13). The Doux (25) will affect the following days, January 29, 2024, while the Haute-Haronne (31) and the Hérault (34) will follow.

City speed cameras: they won’t miss a thing

City radars exist in two modelswhich you have probably already seen being tested in some French municipalities in recent years: Parifex Nomadpresent in the Territory de Belfort and in Doux (around Montbéliard), as well as Idemia Mesta Compactbased in Toulouse and Marseille.

The real gems of technology that these city radars are capable of control up to 126 vehicles on five lanes at the same time, and that’s over 100 meters away, while the infrared sensor is responsible for determining the type of vehicle (car, truck, two-wheeler, bus, heavy-duty vehicle, etc.). The camera also allows you to determine the state of red lights and read all license plates. Three other cameras, as well as an invisible flash, allow you to do thisperpetuate the image in every detail, day and night. They are also able to notice not wearing a seat belt and holding a mobile phone : however, they are not yet approved for these functions.

The goal: zero tolerance in cities

The claims of these radars are clear: “zero tolerance in the urban environment”. City radars are installed in very discreet bodies, approximately 85 cm high, located at a height of 2.5 to 5 meters on poles or lampposts. In other words, this is a miniature version of the famous tower radars.

To improve their work, as reported by the specialized website Radars-auto, only 20% of city radars will workothers being lures. In practice, it will be difficult to know which radars actually work or not, because the devices are designed to work moved regularly, while all cabins have tinted windows to hide the presence of cameras.
