Hyundai: new electric and affordable model to compete with Dacia Spring Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

As the EV market continues to grow faster than ever, every manufacturer wants to find a place in it. Which makes sense after all, as this sector can be very profitable. But not everyone is in the same boat, and some do much better than others. This is, for example, the case of Dacia, which became a hit with its Spring, which was even the best-selling electric car in France at the end of last year. An undisputed success for what remains the cheapest zero-emission car on the market today.

A new opponent

And inevitably, this success gives ideas to certain manufacturers. We think, for example, about Chinese brands, but not only. Because in Korea we are also interested in small, inexpensive electric cars. And this is especially true Hyundai, who also wants his piece of the pie. For this, the Asian manufacturer plans to release its own electric city car in the coming years. And the latter will actually be a derivative of the already existing model known as the Hyundai Casper and sold in South Korea from 2021 very precisely.

What engine?

But then what should we expect from this newcomer? According to some sources, the electric version may inherit the engine of the new Kia Ray, with an 86-horsepower engine connected to Battery 35 kWh. Thus, the autonomy will be displayed at the level of about 205 kilometers compared to 230 kilometers WLTP for the Dacia Spring. The two electric city cars should be priced relatively the same, under €25,000. It remains to be seen when this novelty will arrive!
