Launched in 2022, Volkswagen ID.Buzz is the new favorite of electric cars : anything but ordinary, this van is a neo-retro tribute to the legendary ‘Bulli’, the 1950 Transporter! It was offered at the time of launch only in a five-seater version, this year it joined it variant with an extended wheelbase and 7 seats : families will appreciate it! It extends from 25 cm compared to the classic body approaching 5 meters in length (4.96 m). The launch of this long version also marked the launch of the ID.Buzz in North America, where it received a bright logo on the front. An item that we hope will also arrive here as soon as it is authorized. But it is difficult to convince the European Union…
Bigger, more spacious!
The revolution of this wonderful ID.Buzz on board where you can have individual seats in row 2 instead of the classic 60-40 seats. And two additional seats are added, possible configuration for 5, 6 or 7 seats. And even then it still remains 306 liters for luggage. Passengers will also benefit from an interior bathed in light from the large panoramic sunroof, which can be dimmed at will with a touch-sensitive slider.
Extending the wheelbase makes it possible to land more powerful battery under the floor, 86 kWh compared to 77 kWh in the standard version. This will no doubt allow sufficient range to be maintained despite the increased weight and design, but Volkswagen has yet to announce the numbers. The engine also gained power, increasing from 204 to 286 horsepower.. Enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The top speed has been increased to 160 km/h instead of 145 km/h in the regular version.
A converted van awaits
After the “standard” ID.Buzz and this new “Grand ID.Buzz”, there is only one missing to complete the trio: a Californian, “converted” version of an electric station wagon ! Spoiler: it will not appear before 2025. By the time the Dutch company Outbase has developed its own “kit”, to convert the serial ID.Buzz. He adds lifting roof to accommodate a double bedmulti-seater rear seat that turns into a bed, swivel front seats, open kitchenAND several places for storage under the floor and in the door buttresses. Suffice it to say that camping in an original and unusual electric van! But it comes at a price: 25,690 euros for the transformation, to which is added the base price of 59,450 euros. This version is based on the classic ID.Buzz length (an extended version will arrive in 2024), it makes do with a 77 kWh battery, offering 423 km of autonomy…
