If you closely follow automotive news, then you definitely know that since December 16, the electric vehicle industry has “bloomed” after the entry into force of the new environmental bonus in France.

Among the main losers in this measure are the Tesla Model 3, the Dacia Spring and the MG4, three models that are a hit in France and are suffering. loss of €5,000 on their bets due to the new bonus.

What does the new environmental bonus in France take into account?

Remember that the government has decided to revise the contours of the environmental bonus rules for 2024, including more precise criteria. This new version of the bonus is its focus on cars with the best carbon footprint.

Various environmental criteria are taken into account, such as the materials used, the type of battery, the energy consumption of the factory and the impact of vehicles. In other words, This measure is aimed at eliminating cars made in Chinaincluding the three models mentioned above.

About 65% of electric cars sold in France are eligible for the new bonus. The list can also be found in our special article.

Before falling prices?

But what do the builders, who were “excluded” from the environmental premium, plan to do? Oddly enough, from Tesla or even from MG, producers must adjust their prices, even if they remain relatively good compared to the competition. Indeed, the MG4, even without the bonuses, remains competitive against its lower segment rivals such as the Peugeot e-208, while the Tesla Model 3 is still cheaper than the BMW i4, for example.

For its part, Kia, which also saw its Niro EV pulled from the system, reacted quickly by offering a €5,000 bonus until the end of the year to keep it competitive in the market. While waiting to know the exact amount of the new environmental bonus for 2024, manufacturers must offer “attractive” prices for some of their affected products.

On the other hand, for the Dacia Spring, which is due for a major restyling this year, the manufacturer has not given any concrete clues about its roadmap, and this is quite worrying in the sense that the Spring, apart from the bonuses, does not long really have any what are the advantages over the new sub-€25,000 electric cars arriving next year, cars with far fewer compromises.

On the other hand, Dacia could take advantage of the Renault group to move some of its production to Europe, but it would still be worth the effort. If production costs increase and the size of the environmental bonus decreases, then Dacia Spring will struggle with new competitors.
