Renault Megane E-Tech: expected price drop? Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Since the beginning of the year, The price war started by Tesla in the electricity market (in particular, on the Model 3 and Model Y) disrupted the structure of the assortment of its competitors. With drops sometimes of several thousand euros overnight, they had to adapt urgently to keep their models competitively priced. Here’s how Fiat created special offers for its electric 500, Skoda has once again introduced an entry-level engine in its Enyaq. Others, like Volkswagen and Renault, refused to enter the American manufacturer’s game. Finally this summer, Losange reversed course and re-introduced the Mégane E-Tech EV40 ! Having 130 horses, this entry-level version has a range of 300 kilometers. Its prices start at 38,000 euros, ie. €33,000 bonus deducted.

Making Mégane E-Tech more affordable

But at the same time, EV60 version which represents the main range and most sales, always shows more than €40,000: €44,500 exactly, or €39,500 after deducting the bonus. It remains expensive, especially after Renault announced it recently its new Scénic E-Tech will cost less than €40,000 while it uses the same EV60 engine as the Mégane. There is a catch: the Mégane EV60 is currently more expensive than the Scénic (the exact prices of which we still do not know), but at the same time it is smaller… All this may soon change, and The Mégane EV60 is experiencing a significant price drop ! This has already happened in the UK, where she lost up to 3,500 pounds, or about 4,000 euros, in just a few days! It is currently trading at £34,495 or €40,000 : the same price we can charge in France, minus the bonus.

Don’t let Mégane and Scénic destroy each other

Therefore, everything speaks about it Renault will soon reduce prices for France : of course, when the new Scénic E-Tech will be presented. There are also uncertainty hovering over the environmental bonus-malus : the rules for its distribution will change on December 15, 2023, but we are still waiting for the exact scale from the Government. So be patient! And if you’re considering buying a Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60, it might be wiser to wait a few weeks… Just a reminder that it offers autonomy up to 470 kilometers and supports a charging power of up to 170 kW, enough to restore 80% autonomy in about 30 minutes… Three trim levels are available (Équilibre, Techno and Iconic) and two engines: 130hp EV40 and 220hp EV60…
