Honda recently announced its ambitious new goals in the world of electric two-wheelers to strengthen its position in the global market.

Honda plans to achieve From 2030, 4 million electric motorcycles and scooters are sold annually, which is higher than the 3.5 million previously estimated. This vision is accompanied by concrete plans, including release of 30 new models of electric two-wheelers by 2030.

Will Honda soon become the world leader in electric two-wheelers?

As part of this strategy, Honda also aims to reduce production costs by 50%. The Japanese group is already investing heavily in the electric two-wheeler segment with 100 billion yen for the period 2021-2025, followed by an additional investment of 400 billion yen (around €2.5 billion at current exchange rates) from 2026-2030.

To achieve these goals, Honda relies on several key strategies. First and foremost, the introduction of plug-in models that can be charged from a wall outlet for greater flexibility. The manufacturer also wants it “optimize batteries and increase power efficiency”.

Electric two-wheelers before electric cars

Honda plans to build factories for the production of electric two-wheelers from 2027. Simplification of production will be carried out with the help of “common modules” for different models, thereby reducing the complexity of production lines compared to conventional methods.

These electric two-wheeler ambitions are part of Honda’s larger vision, which aims to become fully electric in the automotive world by 2040.

Despite some recent difficulties, and in particular the rejection of a project to collaborate with General Motors on affordable electric cars from 2027, Honda is not giving up on its electrification projects, even if they seem much more concrete today, alongside motorcycles and scooters.
