Starting in 2021, Avere-France has partnered with the Ministry of Energy and electric mobility expert Girev to create a monthly barometer of EV charging infrastructure. Since the beginning of 2023, 7,383 new charging stations have been deployed in France, representing 29,102 new charging stations open to the public. As of the end of October 2023, there were 111,209 charging stations in France.
“An important milestone was reached in October: 110,000 charging points were opened to the public. In addition, France surpassed the total number of installations for 2022 this quarter. However, it is important to note that there has been a slight slowdown in new installations after a period of growth over the summer. The 12-month growth rate fell below 50% for the first time in 2023, and now stands at 47%.Clément Molizon, General Delegate of Auvergne, clarified in this regard: “At the same time, it is interesting to note the evolution of charging stations over 150 kWh, the number of which has increased 3 times over the last 12 months. This development is confirmed by the evolution of installed capacity in France, the growth rate of which only increased during the quarter (3.20% in August, 4.98% in September, 6.42% in October) ».
165 charging points per 100,000 inhabitants
It was in May 2023 that France crossed the threshold of 100,000 charging points open to the public: a goal barely reached, while the French government’s original goal was to exceed 100,000 points in 2021. Now we count on average 165 charging points per 100,000 inhabitants In France.
Thus, the growth continues, facing the growth of the number of electric cars: in the first 10 months of 2023, the number of no less than 253,576 new electric cars which were registered in France, and 131,674 hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
In October 2023, France crossed the threshold of 110,000 charging stations open to the public: this means 47% growth in 12 monthsbut Avere-France still noted a slight slowdown in new installations after a period of growth recorded in the summer.
Three times more terminals over 150 kWh
The deployment of charging stations in France is also focused on high-capacity high-speed models: in fact, the number of charging stations with a capacity of more than 150 kWh has tripled in the last 12 months.
At the end of October 2023, that’s all 38,724 charging stations which we currently find in France: in detail, it is in the Ile-de-France region that we find the largest number of charging stations (5,078 stations with 19,392 charging points), followed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (4,784). stations, or 13,042 charging points).
The deployment of public charging stations in France will continue. Emmanuel Macron has already set an ambitious goal for France: to achieve 400,000 charging stations by 2030. To this end, the government has just announced a new package of €200 million to roll out charging stations.
