A smart decision
And the last one, to put it mildly, is interesting. The latter was developed by a group of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo. Then you can take advantage of stopping at a red light to charge your electric car’s battery. But how is this possible? In fact, the principle is very simple. Coils are installed under bitumen, where cars stop at a red light. They also have coils underneath them which then conduct electricity. Here’s how cars can charge while waiting for light.
A real asset
According to the scientists behind this innovative project, it is possible to recover one kilometer of autonomy every 10 seconds. Thus, a complete stop at a traffic light saves 3 to 5 kilometers, which can make all the difference, especially in a city where stops are frequent. The device is currently in testing in Japan, but could very well be rolled out globally if it proves convincing. Solar roads using this principle are already being developed around the world.
