Created in 2008 to encourage motorists to choose a cleaner car, the eco bonus is an aid to help lower the purchase price. It is currently 5,000 euros, but in some cases it can reach 7,000 euros, especially for the most modest drivers whose reference tax income is below the mark of 14,000 euros. To benefit from this, you must buy an electric car that costs less than 47,000 euros and weighs no more than 2.4 tons. But be careful, because next year the conditions will change significantly.

What about financing?

But how is this little help from the government financed? Well, it is not surprising that the state budget deals with the latter, since the premium is included in the “intervention costs” section of the general budget, in the “environmental aid” section. The size of the budget allocated for the environmental premium is established every year by the financial law. In 2023 it was about 500 million euros. The aid is then paid by the Services and Payments Agency (ASP). This is a state administrative institution, the task of which is to ensure the payment of state aid to enterprises and individuals.

How does it work?

The latter pays the environmental bonus to the vehicle dealer or rental company, which then deducts it from the sale or rental price. If not, then you will need to apply directly from ASP receive assistance payments after buying a car. Please note that this process must be completed within six months of the invoice date or the first rent payment if it is a long term tenancy. The request can be made online.
