Summer rubber, winter rubber, 4 seasons. It is difficult for you to find your way among the vast number of tires available in the market? Let’s take a quick look at the main differences they present. There are seasonal tires, summer and winter tires designed for optimal performance in specific weather conditions. They differ from each other in properties and do not satisfy the same needs. So, Summer tires are made from rubber optimized for maximum performance in hot weather. Their tread is designed to provide optimal grip on dry and wet roads in the summer. On the other hand, as you can imagine, they are less grip on ice and snow due to the firmer nature of their gum.
Summer tire or winter tire?
With winter tires, everything is almost the opposite. They are made of softer rubber that remains flexible at low temperatures. Their protector, on the contrary, has deeper grooves and thin lamellae provide better traction on ice and snow. They offer the same better grip and optimized braking on slippery and cold surfaces. Less effective in hot weather, they wear out prematurely if exposed to excessively high temperatures. But when/under what conditions is it wisest to change summer tires to winter tires?
