Fall is the season of celebration for Porsche, which is celebrating two significant anniversaries this year. Only 70 years ago, the Porsche 550 Coupé made its legendary debut at the Carrera Panamericana, the famous Mexican car race.

Ten years later, TAG Heuer, a longtime partner of the German automaker, launched the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, a watch dedicated to racers that also paid homage to the legendary Pan-am.

To mark these two anniversaries, Porsche presented the Sonderwunsch project “TAG Heuer x Porsche – Legends of Panamericana”. This initiative combines the rich history of Porsche with the world of luxury watchmaking represented by TAG Heuer.

At the center of this celebration is the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, which on this occasion is available at two unique copies.

The first, number 154, will be driven by actor and driver Patrick Dempsey during the first two stages of the next Carrera Panamericana. The second, number 152, will be auctioned in early 2024. Profits from this sale will be donated to charity.

Two cars that resonate with the past

The 718 Cayman GT4 RS “TAG Heuer x Porsche – Legends of Panamericana” design is a visual feast for racing enthusiasts. The designers drew inspiration from vintage photographs of the Porsche 550 Coupé to reinterpret the iconic racing numbers that adorn the roof and doors of these tribute models.

The bodywork is predominantly Le Mans Silver Metallic grey, which was unveiled during the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this year. The TAG Heuer logo is proudly displayed on the bodywork to remind us that the Porsche 550 Spyder introduced by Porsche at the Carrera Panamericana was one of the first racing cars to feature advertising.

The logo of the Swiss watchmaker is also present in the interior along with the bright colors of the Mexican flag. The central place in the cabin is occupied by a mechanical watch manufactured by TAG Heuer.

No performance information has been released for this special edition at this time. However, if you’re keen to own one of these two extremely rare examples, you can try your luck at the auction next January.
