If you follow automotive news closely, you’ve no doubt heard quite a bit about the famous Apple Car last year. But since then, rumors and information have disappeared, and for several months the car with which the Cupertino company is supposed to debut in the world of mobility has disappeared from the spotlight.
Today, some analysts doubt that this project, known by the code name “Project Titan”, will actually see the light of day. But what is it really?
A complex project that can be implemented alone
In the past, Apple’s electric car has already been stopped due to lack of funds or experience. Then the development was resumed, and then suspended again. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst specializing in emerging technologies, Apple wants to control development and productionand for such a complex product as an electric car, this is not necessarily the right way.
Apple Car development seems to have lost all visibility at this point. Unless Apple adopts an acquisition strategy to enter the automotive market, I doubt the Apple Car will be able to enter mass production in the next few years.

Apple…— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) September 27, 2023
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple today will have no choice but to find an already structured partner (many names have been mentioned in the past, from Hyundai to Toyota via startup Canoo) or buy it outright to create a new company dedicated exclusively to this famous Apple Car.
Apple Car planned for 2026?
When Apple once again accelerated the development of its electric car, it was believed that it would be ready in 2025. Some optimistic estimates even talked about the year 2024. Today, as 2023 draws to a close, there’s little chance we’ll see an ounce of Apple-branded EV until at least 2026.
This delay was due to the fact that Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, decided to cut the program, significantly reducing the effort and financial resources allocated to this project. The information emerged in March of last year, when the company reportedly made significant progress in the field of autonomous driving.
Apple is also reportedly considering a completely different strategy following its recent advances in autonomous driving. After all, the American firm can focus on a kind of robotaxis like Tesla, without a steering wheel or pedals.
