A new electric SUV will be added to the Volkswagen line. According to multiple sources provided by our UK colleagues at Autocar, the news comes directly from the German manufacturer’s senior management, which plans to launch this new model by 2026.

It will be manufactured at the Wolfsburg plant alongside the ID.3, suggesting that its dimensions and layout will not be too far from compact.

Volkswagen’s new bestseller?

This information was revealed during a meeting where the brand presented various plans for its factories until 2028. The goal is to optimize production efforts. due to the fact that models using the same platform leave the same factory. Thus, this new electric SUV, whose name remains unknown, should be based on the MEB ID.3 architecture.

In addition to these two models, Volkswagen will also continue to produce the Golf (which will undergo a facelift in 2024) and the new Tiguan in Wolfsburg. The Tayron, which will replace the Tiguan Allspace, will also be built in Wolfsburg from 2025.

Not Trinity, but a new electric car

During the meeting, Volkswagen confirmed that it would not be building a new plant to produce its much-talked-about Trinity flagship, which was supposed to be the brand’s standard bearer in terms of design, aerodynamics and, above all, on-board communication. Instead, the brand will build an electric car “highly automated” in Zwickau, where ID.3 and ID.5 are also manufactured.

For its part, the electric Volkswagen “for everyone” will be produced at the Martorell plant in Spain, along with its “sister” Cupra Raval, with an estimated target of 100,000 units per year. In addition, the ID.2 should also come in a crossover version with an embossed finish, possibly called the ID.2 X.
