A few weeks ago, BMW introduced its new i5, a 100% electric sedan that sits in the middle between the i4 and i7, as well as the 5 Series in gasoline and diesel thermal versions.
This wide range of engines lacked an in-between, i.e. plug-in hybrid versions. Now it’s done, p the new BMW 530e and 550e.
With four or six cylinders
As for the BMW 530e, we are entitled to a four-cylinder petrol engine, while in the BMW 550e xDrive, the Bavarian firm has opted for an in-line six.
An electric motor developed specifically for the new hybrid system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. It develops up to 197 hp. in 550e or 184 hp. in 530e. With the cumulative power of the heat engine, the first one develops 489 hpwhile the second states 299 hp.
Declared mileage of over 100 km for BMW 530e
The interest of these models also lies in the fact that they can drive fully electric vehicles. Autonomy in electric mode is declared between 83-90 kilometers in the WLTP cycle for the 550e xDrive and 93-103 kilometers in the WLTP cycle for the 530th.
Due to the presence of a battery 19.4 kWh capacity in the base, the capacity of the trunk remains adequate with the declared 520 liters
At the same time, the maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to previous models and is now 7.4 kW, which allows you to charge the battery from 0 to 100% in 3 hours and 15 minutes. When plugged into a standard household outlet, it takes 11 hours and 45 minutes to replenish the electrons.
The BMW 530e is available to order in France 71,600 euroswhile the 550e xDrive version requires 83,600 euros.
