In terms of naming the range, among German manufacturers, it is a bit difficult, especially for engines, especially since the associated numbers no longer correspond to muchin the sense that at that time it corresponded to the displacement or characteristics of the engine.

These are today’s electric Porches “Turbo S”, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 with 2.0-liter turbo-hybrid four-cylinder engines or even the hybrid Audi 50 or 55 TFSI e.

Even numbers are reserved for electrical engineering news

And continue not to understand much about it anymore, Audi will still change some things in the names of its models. Yes, according to the British Autocar journalists, even numbers on some models (A4, A6, A8, etc.) will now be reserved for electric vehicleswhile odd numbers (A3, A5, A7…) will be for heat engine equipped models.

For example, the new electric A6 e-tron will go on sale from 2024 alongside a facelifted version of the current A6, which will now be called the A7. The same applies to the new Q6 e-tron, which is positioned as an electric alternative to the Q5 and will appear in 2024.

Will the structure of Audi’s lineup soon become clearer?

Audi technical director Oliver Hoffmann explained that this new nomenclature will eventually become an automatic and obvious way to distinguish between the two types of power units. At the same time, the suffix “e-tron”, which is not popular in France, should gradually disappear.

Oliver Hoffman said: “It is about a clear structure for our clients. In the premium family SUV segment today, we have the Q5, you could say the thermal Q5 and maybe we’ll add the Q5 e-tron. But we decided to have a clear strategy for our model range, and adopting the name Q6 e-tron is more relevant.”.
