Toyota, the king of hybrids, recently went all-electric with its bZ4X. Unfortunately for the Japanese giant, their SUV isn’t really the best in its class… In order to improve the assortment of battery cars, the manufacturer has drawn up a road map, which is designed for the years 2026-2028. And the least we can say is that Toyota, but also Lexus, have big ambitions!
800 km of autonomy from 2026
The Japanese group is currently working on three new technologies, including the famous solid-state batteries. All this will allow electric Toyotas to have greater autonomy and charge faster at lower costs. The first of these technologies should equip the electric cars of the concern from 2026. This will reduce costs by 20% compared to the current bZ4X, which currently starts at €55,000 in France. Cars equipped with its batteries will also take just 20 minutes to reach 10 to 80 percent charge. But the most important thing is that their autonomy should exceed 800 km!
40% cheaper between 2026 and 2027
Between 2026 and 2027, Toyota will offer new electric cars with 20% more autonomy compared to the bZ4X, which currently has a maximum range of 503 km. In other words, the maximum range is more than 600 km. But the manufacturer’s goal is not to go further with this technology. Above all, it wants to offer more affordable vehicles thanks to these new batteries. The brand announces a 40% cost reduction compared to the current SUV. Enough to potentially offer an EV for around €30,000.
1000, even 1200 km of autonomy between 2027 and 2028
Toyota also wants to continue improving these new batteries. Thus, between 2027 and 2028, the manufacturer will offer an electric car with an autonomy of more than 1,000 km.even lighter, but also 10% cheaper to manufacture. At the same time, the famous solid-state batteries will finally appear. They should allow Toyota to offer electric cars with a range of up to 1,200 km and a battery charge from 10 to 80% in just 10 minutes! It’s tempting! Let’s hope Toyota succeeds in implementing this roadmap…
