Every year, Zenpark publishes its hourly parking cost barometer in France, offers an overview of the most expensive cities for parking, observing the development of prices. In addition, this report also allows you to view the revenue generated by Parking Post Package (FPS).

2022 was marked by record inflation in France, with consumer prices rising by an average of 5.2%, according to INSEE. In this strained economic context, on-street parking has also changed, notably by taxing vehicles based on their weight, a reality in Lyon and a prospect in Paris, as well as engine type, electric cars that use preferential tariffs. In September of last year, free parking for thermal motorcycles ended in Paris.

Paris still leads the ranking

This policy aimed at limiting parking in city centers, adopted by many megacities, originates from the desire to reduce car traffic while promoting the use of soft mobility. As a result, hourly rates increase significantly.

no wonder Paris ranks first in the ranking of the most expensive cities for parking, with an average price of 5 euros per hour. This price remains unchanged, in contrast to Rennes, which rose from €1.55 in 2022 to an average of €2.50 in 2023.

Rennes therefore ranks third after Grenoble, which also has an average parking cost of €2.50 per hour. The fourth place is occupied by Bordeaux with an average price of 2.15 euros, and Strasbourg closes the top five with an average price of 2 euros per hour of parking.

The number of FPS has exploded

In addition to hourly payment, paid parking has been decentralized in France since 1 yearEr In January 2018, the single fine of €17 was replaced by the post-parking service package (FPS). Now each community can determine its own pricing policy, and some have turned it into a real business.

Paris, using Moovia’s monitoring services, generated huge revenues, reaching €158.7 million, well ahead of Marseille (almost €7 million) and Montpellier (around €5.5 million).
