Today’s cars are increasingly appealing to thieves, who are now using new methods of theft to commit evil: today, electronic theft (or stealing a mouse) accounts for almost 70% of car thefts.
But now American researchers are working on a new device against car theft: call “Battery search” (which can be translated as “battery detective” in French), this device will allow fight against car key theft.
A new method of combating car theft
With the advent of hands-free access systems, car keys have become particularly vulnerable to thieves: in fact, all it takes is a small malicious electronic box intercept the signal from the keyto duplicate it. Thus, an attacker can unlock and then start the car without any apparent form of hacking.
While it’s possible to use special cases to block the signal from your key, or physical anti-theft devices like a steering wheel lock to prevent an intruder from driving, these solutions aren’t necessarily very practical on a day-to-day basis.
This new “Battery Sleuth” device is currently being tested Researchers at the University of Michiganin the United States: This allows you to affect the battery to lock it if the car is stolen and make sure the thief can’t start the car.
Battery Sleuth: The Best Solution?
To be able to unlock the battery and therefore be able to start the car, the owner must enter the code numbers on the keyboard or identify yourself by fingerprint. The system is also designed to trigger the car alarm if several incorrect codes or unknown fingerprints are entered on the device.
According to the developers of this new system, it would 99.9% reliability. against attempts to steal a car by breaking the key. The test was carried out on 8 cars and apparently the system cannot be bypassed or hacked. The researchers received a substantial $1.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to carry out their project.
However, you will have to wait a few more years of research before you can install this system in your car. The plan is to manufacture an aftermarket anti-theft device to fit into any vehicle already on the road, and to offer the technology to manufacturers so that it can be integrated directly into future new vehicles. It promising new anti-theft system may cause trouble for thieves in the future!
