Restyled Hyundai i20: slightly more expensive than before News Auto Plus in your smartphone News Auto Plus in your inbox

This is a model that acts as an outsider with us, c the category is already saturated with competition. The Hyundai i20, a small city car launched in 2009, has to face its main competitors in the B segment, the first in France in terms of sales and the second in the European market. Among the French, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Citroën C3, Dacia Sandero. But also Corsa, Polo, Fabia, SwiftColt, Yaris, Micra… It is not easy for a Korean city dweller to mark her territory! Its third and last generation released in 2020, however, does not compromise on quality and offers a differentiated proposition that is less standardized than its competitors. a few months ago Hyundai went through a restyling box…

Very easy restyling

The “paw” of the i20 is there its dynamic appearance and clear lines which are part of the continuity of the stylistic language of Hyundai. The designers were stingy with this update, but the bumpers, headlights and grille look narrower than before. It’s also very light at the rear, with most of the changes coming to the diffuser, which has been tweaked a bit. However, it retains its characteristic Z-shaped light signature. Three new body colors added to the catalog: Lucid Lime Metallic (yellow, pictured), Lumen Gray Pearl (gray) and Meta Blue Pearl (blue).

More expensive, but better equipped

On board is also quite easy. The endowment has grown 4.2-inch instrument panel as standard, USB-C ports, as well as new driver assistance features in addition to map updates. To teach all these beautiful people, this facelifted i20 can rely on the same units that were offered before : micro-hybrid gasoline 48 V 100 or 120 horsepower, is always associated with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic. A more classic and entry-level 84-horse 1.2L small-block is also always offered.

The range revolves around the same finishes that are called Proactive, intuitive, creative and executive. And its prices? They start at €18,600 for the Initia, compared to the current version but this must be resisted provision of richer equipment. It is positioned as slightly more expensive than the restyled Renault Clio, which is less equipped and motorized. Will that be enough to get her back in the game?
