Just unveiled at the Chengdu Motor Show in China, the Kia EV5 is the Korean brand’s new offering in the compact electric SUV segment with similar styling to the EV9. but with five seats and an emphasis on comfort.
In practice, The Kia EV5 is a kind of all-electric Sportage that we don’t have, like EV9 for Sorento. The EV5 will initially go on sale in China in late 2023, but Kia plans to roll it out to other markets as well. The full list of countries where it will be sold will be announced next October during Kia EV Day.
Kia EV5: striking style
No official technical information has been released about the EV5 yet, although we do know that the car is based on the E-GMP platform already used by the Kia EV6, EV9 and other Hyundai Ioniq 5s.
Without revealing technical details about engines, power, battery and autonomy, the Korean manufacturer is focusing on the first official photos and on its “special” style with very straight shapes that generally follow the EV9’s continuity.
The Kia EV5 style concept is a combination of strong and strong lines inspired by natural landscapes and modern architecture, under the name “Opposites United” (united opposites). According to Kia, this way we get an impressive electric SUV with square and “soft” shapes.
The ‘tiger face’ characteristic of the latest Kias has been revised with signature Star Map Lighting 3D daytime running lights. Particularly original is the shape of the rear pillar, a large spoiler on the rear window and taillights with an LED light bar.
Kia EV5: focus on comfort and well-being
As for the interior, the Kia EV5 offers comfort, convenience and safety, inspired by the “cocoon” effect of living rooms and recreation areas. The dashboard is also straightforward, with few physical controls, all generally grouped within two screens in a row. Note, however, the presence of shortcuts, presumably with touch controls, present below the central touchscreen.
In any case, if we want to know more about this model, we will have to wait until next October, as mentioned above. This SUV should probably be offered in France and presented as an alternative to the Sportage which, we remind you, is not offered in an electric, but only in a hybrid version.
