BYD (acronym of Build your dreams) is one of the world leaders in the production of electric vehicles and batteries. A Chinese group has just announced that it has crossed the bar 5 million electric cars were produced : a world first for a car manufacturer.

BYD: attack on electric cars

The 5 million model is a Denza N7a new 100% electric premium SUV developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz that offers a range of around 700 km thanks to the 91 kWh Blade battery.

It took BYD no less than 13 years to produce its first million electric vehicles, but only another 18 months to cross the three million mark. Today, the Chinese manufacturer’s production pace has accelerated significantly, and it only took 9 additional months to reach the milestone five million electric cars products.

In 2022, BYD’s electric vehicles have grown significantly, with total sales exceeding 1.86 million units. In 2023, BYD collected at least 1.5 million sales from January to July, including 92,469 units sold overseas, thus surpassing the total overseas sales for the entire year of 2022. In July 2023, global sales of BYD electric vehicles exceeded 4.8 million units cumulatively.

BYD: presence in more than 70 countries

Since 2010, BYD has been expanding globally, especially with a range of electric buses and taxis operating in more than 400 cities from over 70 countrieswhile BYD electric cars are now sold in more than 54 countries. Last month, BYD announced plans to build three new factories in Brazil to support its growth.

Since its establishment in 1995, BYD has always been at the forefront of technological advancements: we owe the Chinese group many innovations, such as Blade batteries, which aim to make batteries more efficient and durable. In 2022, BYD has invested more than 2 billion euros in research and development, with a strong R&D team of over 90,000 employees and over 40,000 patents registered worldwide.
