The Korean manufacturer has just started production Hyundai Kona Electric at its European plant in Nošovice, located near Ostrava in the Czech Republic. By the end of this year 2023, it will be more than 20,000 copies the new electric SUV that will roll off the production lines at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) plant, and 50,000 will be from next year.

Hyundai Kona Electric: strategic location

By 2035, Hyundai plans to sell only zero-emission cars in Europe, and by 2030, at least eleven new Hyundai electric cars will appear on the market. That’s why the new generation Hyundai Kona was originally designed as an electric car, although there will also be hybrid and thermal versions.

Since 2020, the first generation Hyundai Kona Electric has become a whole the first electric car of the brand produced in Europe. It strategic location from HMMC helps reduce delivery times for customers in Europe by reliably complementing the supply of the plant in Ulsan, located near Busan in South Korea. The second generation Kona Electric naturally follows the first model and is therefore also produced in Europe.

The Hyundai Kona Electric, produced in the Czech Republic, will be sold in a right-hand drive version in the UK, Ireland and Cyprus. The model will also be delivered to customers in Turkey, Israel and the islands of Reunion and Guadeloupe.

Two variants of batteries of Polish production

Two versions The Kona Electric is offered: the first with a battery 65.4 kWhequipped with an electric motor 218 horsepoweroffers autonomy 514 km (WLTP). The entry-level version has a battery 48.4 kWh and an electric motor 156 horsepoweroffering autonomy 377 km (WLTP).

Hyundai Kona Electric battery cells are manufactured at the LG Energy Solution plant in Wroclaw, Poland. THE batteries then final assembly at the same HMMC plant in the Czech Republic, which also produced manual transmissions, until late 2021.
