In recent years, there has been a trend towards omnivory automotive technologieswith ever-larger screens: a philosophy that Alfa Romeo doesn’t like, according to its boss Jean-Philippe Imparato, who tells us more about the future of the brand in an interview with the British website coach.

“Of course I respect what Mercedes is doing with their digital technology”– said Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo coach : “but my customers aren’t looking for metre-wide infotainment screens or 200 driver assistance systems that can be switched on and off in their cars”.

Alfa Romeo: the driving experience above all else

According to the general director of Biscione, the next new model in the range will be launched in 2025 : Alfa Romeo will be the first brand of the Franco-Italian automotive group to open STLA Brain platforma completely new technical and electronic architecture from the Stellantis group.

This evolution will bring its share of new technologies, but Alfa wants to focus primarily ondriving experience : Indeed, according to the brand’s latest research, customers would look for retractable instruments as well as an infotainment system that gives them specific information about the car, but doesn’t bombard them with information that’s useless for driving.

However, Imparato confirms that future Alfa Romeos will havebigger screensbut that on-board technology will assist the user in driving such as a augmented reality projection display.

Alfa Romeo: in the program of semi-autonomous driving systems

The head of Alfa also indicates that future models of the brand will be well equipped semi-autonomous driving modes, but every effort will be made to avoid confusion while driving. Indeed, at the beginning of each trip, the driver should choose whether or not to receive assistance.

Jean-Philippe Imparato also adds that the brand does not want to offer all the driver assistance systems that exist on the market to match the competition, but only those that very useful for driving and safety.

Unlike its competitors, it would seem that Alfa Romeo will rather focus on the driving experience of its future cars, rather than equip them with an excess of modern electronic systems that will distract the driver from his main role: driving the car.
