Obtaining a driver’s license is not necessarily an easy task. It is expensive and takes time, it is not necessary to be sure that there will be precious sesame at the end. But when a little pink piece of paper, or rather a plastic card, is in your pocket, you keep it for the rest of your life. With the exception of certain cases, of course, in particular in the case of cvery dangerous driving. But if you’re on good behavior, there’s no reason to stay unlicensed. And that’s even when you get very old and no longer have all the physical and mental capacity to drive a car yourself. And this is still quite a taboo topic for authorities.

To a specific permission?
Indeed, there are countless accidents caused by elderly people who are no longer able to drive independently. And many associations are campaigning for the government to introduce measures such as special driving licenses for older people. But at the moment nothing is planned in France. But this may change, and this time at the European level. Indeed, the European Commission is considering creating a the license is reserved for older drivers, older than 70 years. But what exactly will it consist of? Because so far it’s just a simple project.
Mandatory exam
If this measure were to see the light of day, its operation would be quite simple. Specifically, people over the age of 70 can only drive for five years with this license. When they reach that deadline, they will have to undergo a medical examinationand/or advanced training courses on Road Traffic Rules. After a successful procedure, they will be able to return to the road for another five years. But for now, nothing has been officially formalized, and some are against this measure, such as, for example, the government of Belgium. France has not yet expressed its opinion.
