As you know, the mayor of Paris is not a big fan of cars and even does everything to scare away motorists from the capital’s streets. One-way streets, pedestrian zone, closing lanes on the banks and other bike lanes, everything is done in order to reduce the place of the car in the city. But if there is any category of vehicles against which the city hall is particularly indignant, it is especially SUVs. The latter accuses them of being not only dangerous, but also too heavy and harmful to the planet. According to her, there are too many of them on the streets.
Heavy and bulky SUVs contradict the city’s adaptation to climate change. They are not normal in a city like Paris.

what part
But is it true? Are SUVs really taking over the capital? Well, that’s exactly what the experts at AAA Data, a firm specializing in automotive data, have been working on. According to them, it will be for now 170,000 lifted models on the streets of Paris. This represents 15% of the 1.150 million cars available in the city. Admittedly, that’s a lot, and it may prove Ann Hidalgo right. But this figure should still be relativized compared to the national figures, which, as you will see, are much higher.
Falling number
Indeed, according to the data in PFA (Car and Mobile Platform)46% of the French car market will consist of SUVs. The number has increased slightly since last year it was 45%. If this silhouette becomes more and more successful, it does not invade the streets of Paris, especially since the number of cars in the capital continues to fall. This does not prevent the city deputy from increasing the taxation of these cars, in particular, by applying an increased parking rate to discourage them from coming to the capital.
