When Jaguar was still SSC, the Swallow Sidecars Company
We are in the early 20sthousand century. William Lyons is a young Englishman from Blackpool in Lancashire. He is a 17-year-old boy with no history, quite average academically. However, he likes to touch everything and is very interested in mechanics. From an early age, he was fascinated by the work of motorcycles, which he met on his street. William Sr., who is quite an influential character in his town, manages to get his son an apprentice at Crossley Motors, a young car manufacturer.
But after the first war, the young man quickly finds himself unemployed. On the other hand, his passion for motorcycles remained unchanged. In 1921, the Williams family saw new neighbors settling near their house. Walmsley. Fortunately, their son is also a motorcycle enthusiast. He also tinkers with makeshift strollers in his garage. Their operation is simple: they are small trays mounted on the wheel, which are then hung from the sides of the motorcycles. At that time, it allowed poor families to simply use a rather practical and inexpensive vehicle. Lyons is fascinated by these little strollers. One day he decides to buy one. With their son, Walmsley, they manage to convince their parents to lend them £500 each to start their business. Their business grew rapidly, and in 1922 the two friends founded a company SSCthere Swallow Sidecars Company…
