For several years now, the government has introduced an environmental bonus to encourage motorists to buy electric cars. But while sales are accelerating strongly, incentives are becoming less and less necessary, and so they continue to be revised downwards. The goal? Allow the state to save significantly. Therefore, the bonus will be reduced in 2024, and the conditions of access to it will also be stricter. But that’s not all. Indeed, there have also been rumors that the government also wants to introduce a weight penalty for electric cars. But what about him?
There is one exception to the end of sales of diesel cars in 2035, voted by the European Parliament: luxury cars (Ferrari, etc.). Of course, there are not many of them, so the emissions will be limited, but for the symbol and social justice will have to be ironed pic.twitter.com/6gPS9lc6ZE

Not now
Well, it seems that this measure will not see the light of day. Really, Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire don’t want it implemented now. In any case, this is what he told our colleagues from “Auto-moto”, who managed to communicate with him. He explains that “two things should not be confused: a penalty that is exclusively for thermal vehicles and, on the other hand, a bonus for vehicles below a certain weight“. Therefore, at the moment, the government does not plan to penalize excessively heavy electric models with an additional tax.
More severe bonus
On the other hand, it will be increasingly difficult to get an environmental bonus when buying an electric car. This is no longer available if you have a plug-in hybrid model, but the conditions will become even tougher. For example, the threshold of 2.4 tons for receiving this aid can be lowered. The minister claims that he ” it would be a shame if everything we earn like CO2 emissions in the transition from thermal to electric, we lost it, making vehicles heavier“. To be continued…
