The Volvo EX30 is a model that already looks quite familiar to us, having been announced at the launch of the EX90 a few months earlier.
It is on this day that the Swedish firm unveils its 100% electric compact SUV, a model currently available in three different versions with a fairly wide range that can go from up to 480 km on one charge.
Volvo EX30: modern and streamlined
When it comes to dimensions, the Volvo EX30 measures up The length is 4.23 meters, with a width of 1.84 meters and a height of 1.56 meters, with a wheelbase of 2.65 meters. These dimensions are similar to the new Lexus LBX (4.19 meters), the Audi Q2 (4.21 meters) or even its technical cousin the Smart #1 (4.27 meters).
In general, this model repeats the aesthetic codes of the EX90 with a new interpretation of optics in the form of Thor’s hammer. There isn’t much eccentricity in the lines, with a fairly clean package that characterizes most new EVs these days.
The rear is a bit more divergent, with vertical lights split in two by a body strip (rather than LED) that crosses the stern. The car will be available in five colors at launch, including yellow, which was inspired by the shade of lichen that grows on the rocks of Sweden’s west coast.
From 2024 The Volvo EX30 will also be available in a Cross Country versionwith increased ground clearance and wheels from 18 to 19 inches surrounded by special off-road tires.
In the cabin, fully digital and available with four different “atmospheres”, we find the latest generation of Volvo’s multimedia system, with Google infotainment system, digital key (via smartphone) and five interior lighting modes. There are also driving aids such as Pilot Assist or an alert system to prevent the driver from opening the door if a cyclist is coming up behind.
Volvo EX30: three versions available
At its debut, the Volvo EX30 will be available in three versions with two different batteries. As the name suggests, the base “Single Motor” model will have a single electric motor 272 hp and 343 Nmand a 49kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery that provides a range of 344 km. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.7 seconds, the car can accelerate to 180 km/h and can be charged with up to 134 kW of direct current, allowing it to reach 10 to 80% in 25 minutes.
The second version is still powered by a single 272 hp electric motor, but with a 64 kWh NMC (Nickel, Cobalt and Manganese) battery, giving it a range of up to 480 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is announced in 5.3 seconds, the maximum speed remains unchanged, and recharging is possible at 22 kW on alternating current.
Finally, the top of the range is the so-called “Twin Motor Performance” version with two electric motors for the total power 428 hp and 543 Nm of torque. From 0 to 100 is announced in 3.6 seconds. This version is equipped with a 64 kWh NMC battery, but the autonomy drops to 460 km on the WLTP cycle compared to the single-engine model. The maximum power of direct current charging reaches 153 kW.
