It is a measure that continues to be debated even though it has been in place for a long time. This is an 80 km/h limit that came into force on 1 July 2018 on all secondary lanes of the network not separated by the central armour. A law that was far from unanimous at the time and which, in particular, led to the great yellow vest crisis a few months later. Since then, the government has revised its position and now leaves it up to the departments to choose whether to apply the measure or not. And many of them already did decided to return.

Return to 90 km/h
This is especially true Calvados, in Normandy. Indeed, since April 5, at least 400 kilometers of secondary roads have returned to 90 km/h instead of the 80 km/h set by the government at that time. Good news for motorists, but the return was not easy. Because the department wanted it to be from 2020, but the association challenged the decision and won the case in 2022, rejecting the cap change. But this is what has now been done, thanks to persistence Xavier Charles, Vice President of Calvados Department.
Discovery
He explains that ” one of the motivations of our approach concerns the discovery of remote areas of the Kan agglomeration. It’s a daily challenge, both in terms of actual speed and feel. These are important elements for these residents who feel affected by these decisions.“. He also longsinvest in the safety of the road network, particularly to widen certain lanes to make them safer for users. He explains that ” people look away because they don’t feel like they’re moving forward“.
