
There Volkswagen Passat is an important model from the German manufacturer: launched in 1973 and neglected for eight generations since then, the family car celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
After a three-year break, Volkswagen will be present this year at Techno classic 2023a classic car show that will take place from April 12 to 16 in Essen, Germany. To celebrate its half-century anniversary, no less five copies of the Passat will be presented at the Volkswagen Group stand located in Hall 3.
Volkswagen Passat: 50-year history
The first generation Volkswagen Passat, released in the spring of 1973, was developed by the Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro based on the technical basis of the Audi 80 B1. It was then supplemented by a real estate version that appeared in 1974.
Volkswagen Classic will present a special model in Essen: the oldest Passat. It is about a 1973 Passat B1LS, which is part of the collection of the Volkswagen AutoMuseum Foundation. It has the serial number ‘2’, making it the oldest Passat in the world!
It will be accompanied by a station wagon version: a Passat Variant B1 L 1974, painted in Blanc Atlas and 55 horsepower. This model comes from the Volkswagen Classic fleet and has already been presented at classic car events.
Volkswagen Passat: five models presented at Techno Classica 2023
In the fall of 1980, the second generation Passat was released: it was much larger and more modern and was offered in sedan and five-door station wagon versions. AND Passat B2 CL Formula Ein Diamond Silver Metallic, will also feature the Volkswagen Classic and celebrate its 40th anniversary: it was actually homologated on April 5, 1983.
In 1988, Volkswagen released the third generation Passat: the model a was presented 1991 Passat B3 Estate GT G60 Syncro, the top model from the Volkswagen Classic fleet. The GT trim was indeed a sports version of the Passat, while the G60’s engine was a 1.8-liter 160 hp, mated to “Syncro” all-wheel drive.
Finally, we will also see the Volkswagen group at the stand Passat B2 Electronicsingle 1983 model. This concept car was a lifestyle version of the Passat with four-wheel drive, a turbocharger and built-in technology such as navigation and infotainment.
