A few days ago, we presented you with the new Volkswagen ID.3. “New” is a big word, as we were talking about an updated version with some aesthetic updates.
At the moment, the manufacturer has not yet announced the price of its model in France, but at the time of writing these lines, the German electric compact in its “old” version is thus traded from 46,750 euros, with 204 hp. a range of up to 425 km thanks to a battery with a capacity of 58 kWh. After deducting the €5,000 bonus, the price drops to €41,750.
This is higher than the bonus price deducted from, for example, the Tesla Model 3 Propulsion, which costs below €40,000, thanks in particular to the recent significant price drop. With the restyling, the Volkswagen ID.3 should also reduce prices, and they should start at around €44,000, according to our information.
Will the Volkswagen soon be cheaper than €40,000?
But facing the Tesla Model 3, even if the restyling will undoubtedly bring new life to the ID.3, the competition promises to be tough, and Volkswagen will have the idea to hit hard enough in terms of price to stand up to the Americans. .
Indeed, before the semiconductor shortage, Volkswagen had a more “affordable” model in its range with a small 45 kWh battery that gave the car range from 316 to 350 kmand the motor 150 hp. Called Pure Performance, this version was exchanged for €34,750, or less than €30,000 after deducting the €7,000 environmental bonus in effect at the time.
This model has disappeared from the catalogs in favor of the most expensive ID.3, the one that generates the highest margins, to overcome falling sales, in particular due to production difficulties. According to the German media outlet Handelsblatt, Volkswagen may reintroduce this version in the catalog very soon, enough to drop the price below the €40,000 thresholdbefore deducting the environmental bonus.
Three batteries in the catalog soon?
The lineup structure of the new Volkswagen ID.3 will be announced with prices during the month of April. At the moment, the new Volkswagen ID.3 still has a single engine located in the rear, making it a powerplant.
There is engine power 204 hpwith a couple 310 Nmfor maximum speed 160 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds for the model equipped with a 58 kWh battery (autonomy 425 km according to the WLTP cycle) and 7.9 seconds for the ID.3 with a 77 kWh battery (autonomy 545 km WLTP).
