The development of the new generation Mini Countryman continues. A British SUV should come to our roads at the beginning of 2024with new hybrid engines and brand new 100% electric version.

The British firm recently published the first official photos of one of the latest prototypes, still fully camouflaged, in which we can already see a few details of the production version, which will be officially released later.

Mini Countryman: will be produced in Germany

According to the first official information released by Mini, the new Countryman will be the first Mini produced entirely in Germany, with components and platform shared with the new BMW X1 and in particular its 100% electric version called the iX1.

The electric Countryman will be built alongside the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and 2 Series Active Tourer at the Leipzig plant. There were also photos made public by the manufacturer.

For now, this is all we know officially about the model, as Mini has yet to release any technical data. Still, without much surprise, the synergy between BMW and the English manufacturer will once again hit the mark. Thus, the Countryman, both in thermal and electric versions, will be based on the same technical and mechanical basis as the X1.

Common bases with the BMW iX1

Thus, the new electric Mini Countryman can be equipped with two electric motors with a total power 313 hp and 494 Nmbattery operated 64.7 kWh. A combination that should give it range approximately 440 km according to the WLTP cycle.

In order to accommodate the new Countryman, the Leipzig plant is undergoing major work following an investment of 800 million euros. This investment is aimed at creating additional production areas for electrical components.

By 2024, BMW plans to hire about 1,000 new employees. They will join a current workforce of approximately 5,600. The goal is to increase production rates, which currently stand at 1,000 cars per day.
