This is in November 1983 that Renault presented to the public a new model, named Renault Space : for the first time, the diamond-studded manufacturer is set to bring to market a vehicle that embodies its “car for life” concept, one of the first large family minivans inspired by American vans. In addition to the space on board, it has large glass surfaces that improve the quality of life of passengers: thus, it is positioned as a family and top model.
Its unique one-piece silhouette is also reminiscent of the very first TGV launched a few years earlier. Renault Espace will be on the market in 1984, and at the time it offered unrivaled modularity: it has up to 7 seats on board and the seats are modular and removable. For example, the two front seats flip up to turn the cabin into a living room, while the five rear seats can be removed to create an SUV-worthy XXL trunk.
Renault Espace: the indispensable MPV
in 1991 year, Renault launches the second generation Espace, which has become more mature and modern both in terms of its styling, which is more fluid and aerodynamic, and in terms of its equipment. It is equipped with all-wheel drive, as well as a 153-horsepower V6 PRV engine.
The third generation of Renault Espace was born in 1996 year, in two versions: the first for 5 seats, as well as an elongated version of 27 cm for 7 seats. The design is rounded and the ergonomics of the cabin have been improved, with a meter in the center of the dashboard. The top Initiale trim offers leather and noble materials.
Renault Espace: maximum comfort
in 2002 yearRenault is releasing the fourth generation Espace to modernize the model that has since become a real benchmark. It’s still offered in 5- and 7-seater versions, and the giant 2.16m² glass roof makes it a standout. The success of minivans, which declined at the end of the decade, Renault had to revise its copy.
For the fifth generation, presented in 2014 year, Renault transforms its iconic model into a statutory 7-seater crossover, riding a wave of SUVs that are gradually taking over the market. The model is a concentrate of technology and, in particular, offers four-wheel steering or even a touch-sensitive infotainment system. The model will be sold until 2023 before giving way to a new generation…
Renault Espace: the next generation
Indeed, the French manufacturer has just announced the arrival of a sixth generation Renault Espace, which for the occasion will be transformed into a chartered family SUV, offering 5 or 7 seats depending on the version. The model promises to be as comfortable, innovative and upscale as before, and should offer a new look to appeal to customers who love SUVs now.
The new generation Espace should be presented in the month March 2023before marketing for currentsummer 2023. Based on the CMF-CD platform, it will technically be a lengthened version of the Renault Austral, which will, however, replace its engines.
