Grades fell. And that’s good news for the two newest SUVs from BMW A Munich firm that recently released 2 Series Active Tourer (2021) as well as its main new X1 (2022) received the highest possible marks on Euro NCAP crash test !
New, stricter evaluation criteria
Ratings of the testing institute Euro NCAP is the standard recognized throughout Europe for accident protection, and the level of safety is constantly improving.
Only new cars that offer a excellent impact protectionequipped with comprehensive technology to prevent accidents, now receives the maximum rating of 5 stars.
And our two Bavarian SUVs were given the highest rating by the European Institute. in new central airbag is for many. This significantly reduces the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger in the event of a side collision.
In particular, the BMW X1 scored 86% for adult protection, 89% for child protection, 76% for vulnerable road users (pedestrians and cyclists), not to mention 93% for safety systems.
The 2 Series Active Tourer received respectively 88%, 81%, 79% and 92% for the same criteria.
Excellent accident prevention
As part of the testing procedure of the new BMW X1 (testing here) and a new one BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (checked at the beginning of the year) were distinguished by their excellent level of protection for passengers on the road. Collision protection is particularly effective for pedestrians and cyclists, as is the accident prevention system.
In addition, both SUVs use the latest generationfrontal collision warning with braking function. This brings a real plus from the point of view of safety in urban traffic. The latter detects pedestrians and cyclists approaching the traffic lane from behind or in front when turning right, which can effectively avoid collision with road users. Finally, the new system warns of the presence of oncoming traffic when turning left.

Good passive safety
Passive safety is also good for both models. As standard, they are equipped with a central airbag between the driver and front passenger seats.
In various crash tests, this integrated safety system guaranteed a high level of injury protection on both models, regardless of the size and position of the occupants. Both at the front and at the rear, Euro NCAP explained that the head restraints and seats of the new BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer also effectively protect against whiplash injuries that can be triggered by rear-end collisions.
Finally, to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians and cyclists, the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are equipped with active engine covers. On impact, the caps are raised by pyrotechnic actuators to create additional deformation space between them and the solid components below. The system proved its reliability and efficiency at various speeds in the Euro NCAP safety test.
