Oil pumping is finally legal: everything you need to know. News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your inbox

A few months ago, we discussed a bill that would allow the use of cooking oil as fuel. Indeed, if it is technically quite possible to drive with this type of product, this practice was previously completely prohibited by law. And this is for the simple and good reason that oil is not taxed in the same way as petrol or diesel, creating a significant deficit for the government. If you’re caught, you could be fined heavily, depending on the amount used to operate your vehicle. But now that is changing. And indeed, the government has finally legalized driving on oil as part of its draft budget for 2023.

A big step forward

This amendment was originally proposed environmental deputy Julien Bayu and was dropped by the government in August, to the dismay of motorists who saw it as a money-saving solution. But after a few months, our leaders returned to the issue and finally included this measure in the PFL. This was stated by the deputy then unlike rapeseed, sunflower, soybean and palm oils, which are also used to produce biodiesel, used cooking oils do not compete with food oils“, adding that”it is better to rely on French fries in the North than on the oil of the oil monarchies“.

.

A few precautions

If the use of used cooking oil is allowed, it is impossible to do anything and everything. Indeed, only diesel cars can use this alternative fuel without any risk. It is also advisable to add a little diesel fuel to the mixture to make it even more liquid. It is also necessary to adapt the engine for better oil filtration to avoid damage to it. It also needs to be drained and then filtered before use.
