More than a million copies have been sold Peugeot 3008 is undoubtedly the star of the Lion lineup. If it is not the best-selling model of the manufacturer, then it destroyed the competition segment of compact SUVs. So much so that Peugeot decided to double its bid. Well, sort of. In fact, the manufacturer has recently introduced 408. We can see this by the absence of a double 0 in its name, Peugeot does not take this into account not like a real SUV. But its build and looks will make some 3008 owners hesitate… Does it have the weapons to stand out among an already well-stocked lineup?
Auto Plus was able to take place aboard the Peugeot 408, the latest innovation from Lion. We tell you all about this coupe SUV! https://t.co/wyKfDdIs7m

Exterior: Classic SUV vs Cross Sedan
This is his vocation, Peugeot 408 a little at the crossroads of many paths. Its dimensions confirm this: although slightly raised, the 408 is 4.69 m long. It is 24 cm longer than the Peugeot 3008! All with the same wheelbase as the sedan.
First of all, the Peugeot 408 bet everything on a much more aggressive style. Despite the platform inherited from the compact 308, only the hood and headlights are shared, everything else is new. Therefore, it stands out much more than 3008, which has been known for 6 years and at the end of its career. But for so many years, the SUV has already been accepted and appreciated for its modern, but not magnificent appearance. Flavors and colors…
Interior: surprising capacity
If you’re a little tight in the back in your 3008, the 408 might be the solution. Indeed, Peugeot promises the best viability of the entire range, exactly! Legroom is really more than enough. On the other hand, trunk volume is advertised as nearly identical : 520 L for the 408, 522 L for the 3008. Finally, the headroom can be a bit limited for tall people.
At the front, we find in the 408 a presentation identical to the presentation of the 308. And that’s very good! The finish is nice both from the point of view of materials and from the point of view of knots. The screens work well and you can use them Digital i-switches, these customizable shortcuts that allow you to quickly access certain functions on a specific third screen. The dial, on the other hand, is narrower than the 3008, and that affects the onboard memory.
As for the SUV, we remain surprised by the modernity of the 6-year-old model. Of course recently restylingThe Peugeot 3008 remains fairly even, even if logically it remains a step behind the 408 in terms of onboard technology.
Engines
At the moment, the offer of Peugeot 408 engines is relatively limited. You will have a choice between a petrol (PureTech 130 hp) and two hybrids (180 and 225 hp). On the other hand, we expect 100% electric version received from 308 the following year.
The 3008 has a variety of engines including a diesel 130 hp. Enjoy, chances are it won’t be for the next generation. Otherwise, the classics: thermogasoline 130 hp, plug-in hybrid 225 hp, and even 300 hp on all-wheel drive Hybrid 4.
Prices and results: In 2023, 3008 shuffles the cards
Peugeot has yet to announce full pricing for the new 408. We’ll probably have to wait Car showroom to get to the bottom of it. But the starting version has already been announced, and it is not cheap: €50,600 for the First Edition with a 225 hp PHEV engine! This is more expensive than Peugeot 3008 GT trim with equivalent engine: €47,600.
In short, the Peugeot 408 has no intention of selling out its talents. Talents, moreover, are numerous: equipment, decoration, appearance, livability … “Cross sedan” on paper has everything to replace the 3008, which will gradually show the weight of years. But the latter will be updated at the end of next year and may well reclaim the crown…
