It is immoral for oil and gas companies to make record profits from the current energy crisis at the expense of the poorest sections of the population, causing significant damage to the climate.
I call on all governments to tax these excess profits and use the funds to support the most vulnerable.

For several months, the price of fuel has risen, you have probably noticed it. And this is even if there was a small drop in recent days, and then the amounts fell below the 2 euro mark. Suffice it to say that this is exceptional, given the situation that has been going on since the beginning of the year. A real outbreak that can be explained by several reasons, including war in Ukraine, which led to an increase in the price of a barrel of oil. But that’s not all, because taxes also play a role, while taxation is at least 60% of a liter of fuel, petrol and diesel combined. But if it clearly had a strong negative impact on the purchasing power of the French, then not everyone should be pitied.
I am introducing a bill aimed at reducing gasoline taxes in the face of record high fuel prices and taxing oil company dividends.

Record profits
Indeed, if motorists are badly affected and suffer from these prices, then the oil companies are rubbing their hands. For example, in the first quarter, TotalEnergies recorded a record profit of $4.9 billion. The net result, which then increases to 5.7 billion in the second quarter. And in general, turnover increased in all companies of the industry in this way. If a liter of fuel is taxed on all sides for customers, no tax is charged on the other side excess profits in France. If the projects have already been mentioned, they have all been challenged by the National Assembly and the Senate in recent years.
The UN intervenes
A situation that does not please Secretary General of the United Nations. On Twitter, Antonio Guterres really expressed his opinion on this matter, without any detours » It is immoral that oil and gas companies are reaping record profits from the current energy crisis at the expense of the poorest, causing enormous climate damage […J’exhorte tous les gouvernements à taxer ces profits excessifs et à utiliser les fonds pour soutenir les personnes les plus vulnérables« . Reste à savoir si ces propos auront un véritable impact, alors que le gouvernement français refuse pour l’heure de taxer les compagnies pétrolières.
