Although the total number of victims of human trafficking in Romania decreased between 2012 and 2022, our country is even worse in terms of exploitation of minors, the prevalence of exploitation cases per hundred thousand inhabitants almost doubled. Also, child pornography became a favorite method of exploitation.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs submitted for public discussion the National Strategy for Combating Human Trafficking for 2024-2028, a document that provides data on the evolution of this phenomenon in recent years. The data show that, although human trafficking has declined, the Romanian state still has a serious problem in protecting children from exploitation, especially for the purpose of child pornography.
